Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour is no longer open. The iconic ice cream chain, which gained fame for its nostalgic atmosphere and extravagant ice cream sundaes, has faced significant challenges over the years. Despite efforts to revive the brand, the last remaining Farrell’s location in Brea, California, closed its doors in 2019. This closure marked the end of an era for the beloved chain, which had seen various periods of resurgence and decline since its founding in 1963.
Farrell’s initially thrived after being purchased by the Marriott Corporation in 1971, expanding to over 130 locations. However, changes in ownership and evolving consumer preferences led to a decline, with most locations closing by 1990. A revival attempt in 2009 by Parlour Enterprises Inc. saw the opening of several new locations, but financial difficulties persisted, culminating in the closure of the remaining stores by 2019.
The brand’s most recent attempt at revival was featured on CNBC’s “The Profit,” where entrepreneur Marcus Lemonis invested in Farrell’s. Despite this intervention, the last locations could not sustain operations, leading to their closure. Lemonis has expressed hope for a future opportunity to reintroduce the brand in a new format, but as of now, all Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlours have ceased operations.
