Tyrann Mathieu, also known as the “Honey Badger,” had an illustrious college football career at Louisiana State University (LSU) from 2010 to 2011. Despite his remarkable performance and leadership on the field, Mathieu did not win a national championship. In 2011, he played a pivotal role in leading LSU to an undefeated regular season, earning them a spot in the 2012 BCS National Championship Game. LSU faced the University of Alabama in that game, ultimately losing 21-0.
During his time at LSU, Mathieu was known for his playmaking abilities, including forced fumbles, interceptions, and punt returns for touchdowns. His outstanding performances earned him several accolades, including the Bednarik Award as the nation’s best defensive player and being a finalist for the Heisman Trophy in 2011.
Unfortunately, Mathieu’s college career was marred by off-field issues. In August 2012, he was dismissed from the LSU football team for violating team rules. This dismissal came before what would have been his junior season, effectively ending his college football career.
Despite not winning a national championship, Mathieu’s impact on college football was significant. He declared for the NFL Draft in 2013 and has since had a successful professional career, including winning Super Bowl LIV with the Kansas City Chiefs.
